Welcome to the 2007 International CES

On behalf of the more than 200 companies that compose the Consumer Electronics Association’s Digital Imaging Division, and with CES 2007 now just a little over a week away, we’d like to shine a spotlight on digital imaging at the 2007 International CES.

For the past decade, digital imaging products have wowed consumers the world over. Digital camera sales have exploded, revolutionary services have been created, billions upon billions of digital pictures have been taken, and digital prints have skyrocketed. Retailers, distributors, manufacturers and consumers alike have prospered, but such prosperity leads to an inevitable question: what’s next?

Now in its 40th year, CES defines “next” on a global scale, and digital imaging is at its heart. No longer confined to a single domain, imaging touches nearly all aspects of consumer electronics, from in-car entertainment and portable media devices to video displays and mobile handsets.

The digital imaging industry is again poised to deliver a wealth of new consumer experiences. This will come not only through hardware and software innovation, but also in creating new environments for people to take, enrich and share pictures in ways previously unimaginable.

Retailers are at the heart of bringing these experiences to life, helping consumers find solutions to everyday problems as well as opening their eyes to new possibilities. CEA initiatives such as its retail training site — CEKnowHow.com (inclusive of an in-depth digital imaging module) — ongoing research, and partnerships with organizations such as Picture Business are but a few of the ways that CEA advances the industry’s vision.

So, as you walk the show floor, meet with colleagues, and explore the latest in technology at this year’s show, please keep “what’s next?” top of mind. You’ll discover elements of the answer on display for the all world to see, while also helping others in the industry create entirely new visions that will transform the previously unimaginable into reality.
