Las Vegas, NV—Polaroid announced an agreement between its licensee C&A Licensing and Socialmatic to produce the Polaroid Socialmatic instant digital camera. The Socialmatic is designed to bring the appeal of ’70s vintage Polaroid cameras together with the ability to print photos instantly and allow users to connect with social media networks using the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi. C&A Licensing, an authorized Polaroid licensee, will produce and distribute the camera.

“We are very excited about the partnership with Socialmatic, which will extend our instant digital camera line,” said Scott W. Hardy, president and CEO of Polaroid. “Polaroid was the original social network by allowing consumers to take a picture and share it instantly in the moment. This relationship with Socialmatic allows Polaroid to come full circle and bring back the nostalgia of the instant photo and pair it with today’s technology like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth so consumers can instantly print or post their images, bringing sharing to a whole new level.”

The 14 megapixel camera enables users to take a picture and immediately post it to a favorite social media site via Wi-Fi. And, the photo can be printed instantly on integrated paper featuring ink-free Zero Ink printing by ZINK Technology. The Polaroid Socialmatic will also be Android-based with a 4.3-inch touch-screen LCD for navigation and an LED flash for low-light shooting.

“We are proud to join forces with such an iconic brand as Polaroid to introduce this new generation of instant products to market,” said Antonio DeRosa, CEO of Socialmatic LLC. “Combining the Polaroid heritage with our new social network technology, we can introduce a unique and innovative camera to consumers.”
