The new Droid mobile phone enjoyed a huge opening weekend, selling around 100,000 units in its first three days on the market, Bloomberg News reported last week, citing an industry analyst.
Analyst Mark McKechnie at Broadpoint AmTech Inc. reported that around half of the Droid’s initial stock sold out in the first weekend. The Droid device, manufactured by Motorola, carried by Verizon Wireless and featuring Google’s Android operating system, has been running a high-profile advertising campaign taking aim at Apple’s iPhone.
