Sears, Kmart to Offer Stimulus Bonus

Sears and Kmart will both be adding a special incentive to get consumers to spend their forthcoming economic stimulus checks in their stores. Sears Holding Co., which owns both chains as well as Land’s End, announced Wednesday that it will offer a ten percent bonus to customers who convert their stimulus check into a gift card at one of the stores.

“In this tough economy, we know that our customers are focused on how to make their money work harder for them,” the company’s interim CEO and president, Bruce Johnson, said in a statement announcing the move, which will last from May 14 through July 19.

In a survey released last month, the Consumer Electronics Association found that one fifth of customers asked said they would spend some or all of their economic stimulus package on electronics products.
