The camera giant Nikon, Inc. on Tuesday announced the appointment of a new president and CEO. Ascending into the top spot at the company will be Yasuyuki Okamoto, a 29-year veteran of the company.

His top responsibilities as CEO, according to a company statement, include driving sales and customer service in the Americas. Nikon, Inc. is the Western Hemisphere subsidiary of Japan-based Nikon Corp.; Michio Kariya, to whom Okamoto will report, is Nikon Corp.’s CEO.

Okamoto most recently served as general manager and operating officer for marketing at Nikon’s Imaging Company; he had also worked for stints in the company’s corporate communications shop, and was president of Nikon’s France division in the late 1990s.
