ColorMunki may not be more fun than a barrel of monkeys, but it’s easy enough for a monkey (or photographer/graphic designer) to use. The Swiss-engineered, X-Rite product is intended to be used by professionals that don’t have the time or inclination to learn about color management, yet need their colors to be spot on. There are three affordable, portable (it fits neatly in the palm of a hand) ColorMunki’s to choose from: ColorMunki Photo, for wedding/event and portrait photographers; ColorMunki Palettes was created with designers in mind so they can create color palettes from any source; ColorMunki Design, also for designers, allows users to accurately simulate—from any source—colors that inspire them.
As part of the ColorMunki launch, X-Rite also announced that the product can be run across Pantone (purchased by X-Rite late last year) strips and correctly copy the color. As X-Rite explains, “designers have the ability to create color palettes from any source, including images and Pantone libraries.” ColorMonki will be available through normal photo channels and will ship in mid-May. www.xrite.com.
