Wayne, NJ—JVC’s new premium camcorder, the Procison GC-PX100, is engineered to capture high-quality video of fast-moving action. It utilizes high bit rate progressive recording to deliver high-resolution HD images plus high-speed recording for super slow-motion video. It also offers Wi-Fi connectivity and specialized apps.

The camera shoots Full HD 1,920×1,080/60p video at 36Mbps, a bit rate that allows Full HD slow-motion playback, ideal for motion analysis or special effects. It also features a fast f/1.2 lens with 10x optical zoom, a 1/2.3-inch 12.8 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor and optical image stabilization.

Its multi-format recording options allow consumers to choose the HD format that best suits the situation, and five shooting speeds are available. The speeds range from 120 frames per second to 600 fps and are selected using a dial located next to the lens. It’s also possible to grab bursts of nine still images from video at the touch of a button, similar to what can be done using the motor drive on an SLR camera.

Other shooting modes for capturing action include high-speed digital still recording at up to 60 fps and variable speed time-lapse recording. In addition, zoom position memory, a function for analyzing sports plays, enables quick switching between three angles of view—full wide, full tele and a user-settable position in between. Shooters can go from full field team formation analysis to a tight shot of a goal being scored, with instant switching of focus, zoom and exposure.

The camera’s Wi-Fi connectivity permits video and images to be wirelessly sent to and viewed on a smartphone or tablet. And for consumers with an interest in analyzing an athlete’s performance, the free JVC Cam Coach app for iOS and Android allows annotations to be made on the playback image.

Also provided is a twin view function for simultaneous side-by-side playback of two different video clips after they’re transferred to a tablet. Other features include a 3.0-inch tiltable LCD monitor that enables high- and low-angle recording, a tagging function that provides quick access to a particular scene, and a scoring function, which lets users record a running tally of a game score as it progresses by tapping on a smartphone.

The JVC GC-PX100 was designed with an SLR-type body with all key controls and functions placed for intuitive operation. An LCD monitor hood is included and an optional color viewfinder is available. $999.95. jvc.com
