Concord, MA—TomTom debuted the TomTom Bandit action camera that is designed to make editing and sharing videos quick and easy. Instead of downloading and sorting through footage, users can create an edited video and share it within moments of the action via the cam's app and built-in media server.

“We know that the biggest frustration people have with action cameras today is the time and effort it takes to edit,” said Corinne Vigreux, cofounder and managing director, TomTom Consumer. “With TomTom Bandit, we've cut the editing time down from hours to minutes-all it takes is a shake!”

The TomTom Bandit is equipped with in-camera motion and GPS sensors to automatically find and tag recorded moments based on speed, altitude, G-force, acceleration and heart rate. Highlights can also be tagged manually with a tagging button on the camera or the remote control.

“We took a simple but radical approach to solving the editing problem,” added Slobodan Stanisic, lead engineer at TomTom. “With all existing action cameras, you first need to download gigabytes of footage to a powerful PC, a process that can take a long time. Then you need to find the highlights, put together a story and format it. We know this often takes hours. Not with the TomTom Bandit. We have designed a camera where the footage is processed on the camera itself, making the editing process far easier and much faster.”

TheTomTom Bandit works with a smartphone app that includes a fast viewfinder. Footage can be reviewed instantly with the app thanks to the built-in media server. In editing mode, a simple shake of the smartphone instantly creates a movie. Users can then make changes, add music and add overlays of favorite metrics, such as speed, before sharing with friends.

The action cam features a wide-angle lens, a 16MP CCD image sensor, and built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. It records video at 1080p 30p, 1080p 60p, 720p 60p, 720p 120p as well as cinematic 2.7K 30 or 4K 15. It also captures full-res still bursts at up to 10 fps.

It is completely waterproof, and its steel ring mounting system has a quick release mechanism. Its Batt-Stick combines a long-lasting battery, microSD card and USB 3.0 connection. It plugs directly into a computer via USB to charge and download footage, removing the need for additional cables or adapters.

The TomTom Bandit action camera will be available in the U.S. later this summer for about $475. A premium pack will also be available that includes additional accessories. tomtom.com
