Irvine, CA—Toshiba America Electronic Components expanded its family of Canvio external hard drives (HDDs) with 4 terabyte options in its Advance, Basics and Ready series. The 4TB drives give up to 33% extra storage (compared to 3TB) for consumers who want to store large files and back up their data.

Moreover, using 1TB platter technology allows the 4TB Canvio models to maintain the same low-profile design as 3TB models. All models support Windows and Mac operating systems. They also are compatible with both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0.

Canvio Features

The Canvio HDDs combine a sleek form factor with practical features such as a ramp-load design that prevents internal wear. They also offer plug-and-play functionality along with backup and security software (Advance models). In addition, they provide more flexible capacity options of 1TB, 2TB and now 4TB.

“The amount of data a person or company needs to store and back up is increasing exponentially. Toshiba constantly strives to give our customers cutting-edge technologies with ever greater storage in a portable, lightweight and attractive design,” said Michael Cassidy, vice president, Consumer HDD, Americas, Toshiba America Electronic Components.

In addition, the 4TB Basics model is available now for an SRP of $109.99. General availability of the 4TB Advance and 4TB Ready models will start in January 2019.
