Las Vegas, NV—Olympus’s just-announced M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-200mm F3.5-6.3 (24-400mm equivalent) super telephoto zoom lens conforms to the Micro Four Thirds system standard. According to Olympus, it boasts the highest magnification zoom available on an interchangeable lens for mirrorless systems at 16.6x at the time of its introduction.

“Users will experience excellent depictive performance across the entire focal length from wide angle to telephoto, making it the perfect travel companion. It packs high-speed and high-precision autofocus into an amazingly compact, lightweight form,” the company announced.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 12–200mm f/3.5–6.3 lens features dustproof and splashproof construction. As a result, it is durable enough to withstand tough shooting conditions, especially when paired with a weather-sealed Olympus OM-D camera.

Moreover, when shooting wide, its closest focusing distance is less than nine inches from the main subject. This allows it to capture the subject as well as an expansive background.

In addition, when shooting telephoto, the maximum magnification of 0.46x (35mm equivalent) allows for close-up photography and for significant background defocusing.

This lens also employs the Olympus MSC (movie and still compatible) mechanism. The inner focusing mechanism provides fast, smooth, quiet and accurate autofocusing. It is also ideal for video shooters. In addition, photographers can benefit from the short shooting time lag, so split-second photo opportunities are not missed.

Furthermore, ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) coating, cultivated from multilayer film disposition technology used in microscopes, is applied to the lens to reduce ghosts and flares. This also contributes to a clear, high-contrast image.
