Melville, NY—Compact and lightweight, the new Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens is now the widest-angle macro offering in Canon’s EF-S lens series. The lens is designed to help both entry-level and advanced amateur DSLR photographers discover the possibilities of macro photography.
Capable of capturing close-up subjects with detail, it is also the first in the series to feature built-in “macro lites.”

The 56mm-equivalent lens is capable of shooting as close as 30mm (just over an inch) from the end of the lens to the subject. As a result, it is able to capture images with background blur. It also permits full-time manual focus.
Additional built-in technologies include a hybrid image stabilization system engineered to provide up to four stops of shake correction. In addition, the lens employs smooth movie servo AF with a lead screw-type STM (stepping motor) to ensure quiet autofocus operation.
EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM Macro Lites
Furthermore, in a first for the EF-S lens series, the EF-S 35mm lens has built-in macro lites. The LEDs enable photographers to carefully arrange macro lighting without using special equipment. Using the LED lights on each side of the lens, photographers can create shadows on either side of a subject. Or they can also adjust intensity to give images a sense of dimension.
While specialized for high-magnification photography, the macro lens is also said to be capable of capturing portraits, landscapes or snapshots. The Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM lens is scheduled to be available in June 2017. It will have an estimated retail price of $349.99. usa.canon.com
