Cologne, Germany—Kodak Alaris, on a mission to help consumers unlock their images through new printing solutions, from Kodak Moment apps to Kodak Picture Kiosks, is focusing on the ecosystem of mobile printing and the connection between retail and online services—to empower consumers to manage their images in new ways.

The company is showcasing a range of new products at photokina 2014, including mobile print apps, tablet print apps and new photo premium products, such as high-quality custom-cover duplex photo books, new professional papers and its film portfolio.

“In a world where we capture more images and share more images than ever before, we’re passionate about helping people capture, keep, share, relive and celebrate their precious moments as easily as possible,” said Ralf Gerbershagen, CEO of Kodak Alaris. “We’re driven by a simple belief—to help consumers find a better way. It drives us to keep innovating and push the boundaries between the physical (retail space) and digital (mobile/PC) environments.”

To that end, Kodak Alaris unveiled the latest additions to its Kodak Moments apps.
With more than six million app downloads to date, new features were added to the app family on the iOS, Android and Windows platforms. These include the “Tell My Story” feature for Android smartphones. For social media fans, it enables them to combine three images with voice-over narration, for a more personalized sharing experience. This feature will soon also be available for iOS smartphones.

In addition, the Kodak Moments HD app is now available. The newest tablet app, offered in both Android and iOS platforms, is designed to take advantage of the larger format and enhanced touch-screen functionality for easier creation of photo books and prints in an expanded range of sizes. The app features Smartfit technology, which preserves complete content of pictures without cropping, regardless of format, including panoramic images. And Kodak Perfect Touch Enhancement technology is also embedded.

Instant Square Prints Available at Retail

The square photo print, one of the most popular image formats on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, is now available on Kodak Picture Kiosks. Consumers can connect wirelessly using the My Kodak Moments app for smartphones or the Kodak Moments HD app for tablets to instantly turn photos into “retro” prints. The apps also make it easier to access images not only on the smartphone but also from Instagram, Facebook, Dropbox and Flickr.

A further photokina highlight is the new Kodak Marketplace, which enables customers to order personalized photo products online while in-store at a Kodak Picture Kiosk. Kodak Marketplace will allow retailers to generate additional revenue by expanding their premium product segment and partnering with third-party suppliers of their choice. Kodak Marketplace is currently being piloted at key retailers.

photokina attendees can also meet photo app developers who are participating in the new Kodak Photo Service program. Kodak Alaris opened its worldwide kiosk network to content providers, creating a new consumer-to-retailer service to provide a revenue opportunity for retailers and third-party developers while offering consumers an easy pathway to create output from their images. The program is designed to remove barriers to printing by giving consumers a fast way to print from mobile, desktop and web applications. Consumers can choose what they wish to print, pick the most convenient retail location to pick up the products, and place their orders—all from their favorite devices, at home or anywhere. A Kodak Alaris centralized network is used to connect mobile/app and website content to retail fulfillment.

Also launched at photokina was new Kodak Professional Endura Premier Canvas paper. The canvas surface is a first for the AgX category and is ideal for high-end display prints, photo books and other personalized photo products. The paper is engineered to eliminate the need to strip processed color paper emulsions to achieve a canvas effect in the finished print. kodakalaris.com
