Kodak Alaris Unveils Digital Print Production Software to Help Photo Labs Grow Business

Rochester, NY—Kodak Alaris is unveiling new tools and resources to help professional photographic labs improve workflow, heighten productivity and expand their businesses. The latest version of Kodak Professional Digital Print Production software, (DP2) version 17, includes the company’s most advanced imaging technology to aid in the creation and production of a range of photo products and services.

New features include a color correction app, creative vignettes, new look profiles, customizable reporting and improved digital press workflow for HP Indigo printers.

DP2 v17 will be introduced at the 2014 June Kodak Alaris Pro Lab workshop, where a combination of business and technical educational sessions will be conducted. The sessions are designed to provide professional labs with an updated understanding of market dynamics and opportunities, technical solutions and access to resources to develop individual strategies that address specific business needs.

“Since emerging as an independent company focused on imaging, Kodak Alaris continues to invest in image quality improvements that deliver industry leading services and support for our valued pro lab customers,” said Christopher S. Van Zandt, vice president and general manager of POS for US & C, Kodak Alaris. “The release of DP2 v17 underscores our commitment to pro labs and our mission of creating viable, long-term strategies to help our customers grow their businesses.”

DP2 v17 includes the Wheelman app for Android tablets, replacing the need for older, dedicated color correction hardware. The intuitive mobile app brings popular wheelman features onto a tablet device and includes sensory feedback. Users can control wheel size, sensitivity and sound/vibration, and they are able to configure the user interface to meet their individual preferences. The Wheelman app is available for free download from the Kodak Pro Lab Resource Center for DP2 licensed users.

Professional labs using DP2 also now have the ability to produce more creative products using a new vignette feature that simulates popular photographic lens effects. Users can create vignettes without using masks and have the ability to center the focus of the effect at any position on an image. Six individual parameters can be controlled to design and customize using the desired effects. New look profiles for color negative paper also add to creative output options with custom color saturation and black-and-white options.

Other key updates to the DP2 software include rendering and output improvements with enhanced workflow for HP Indigo printers and integrated HTML scripting that enables users to use real-time order data to create customizable reports.

Kodak Professional Digital Print Production v2 will be available for download on June 20, 2014 at kodak.com/go/dp2.

Attendees of the 2014 Pro Lab workshop also will have the opportunity to interact with Kodak Professional Collections and Creations software—a front-end ordering system that was announced and previewed at last year’s workshop. The software, now in Beta testing, was developed with significant input from professional labs.
