Seattle, WA—Summa introduced the DC5, its next-generation thermal transfer printer-cutter, in 30- and 54-inch widths. Billed as the “ultimate all-in-one print-and-cut powerhouse,” it offers an odor-free alternative to inkjet printing.

Besides being an eco-friendly and zero-maintenance technology, the benefit of thermal transfer printing is the ability to produce instantly dry, outdoor-durable and installation-ready graphics.

This seventh generation thermal transfer printer-cutter for display graphics and sign making employs a new mainboard with a processor that’s 7x faster than previously, as well as updates to enhance productivity and operation. Several new media widths are supported, and support for multiple printers is now accessible via USB, enabling four DC-series machines to be connected via one computer. Plus, Ethernet connectivity introduces advanced networking possibilities and increased data transmission speeds over longer distances.

The 54-inch DC5 features eight universal ribbon cassettes (five for DC5sx), a set of CMYK ribbons and a 54-inch by 50-yard roll of 3M vinyl (30-inch with DC5sx). Its eight-station ribbon changer eliminates the tedious ribbon-changing process and allows for unattended printing of 625 square feet.

The Summa DC5sx, the more compact and affordable model, retains the features of its larger sibling. Equipment durability, print quality, production speed, tracking and cutting features are identical to the DC5.

The DC series prints/cuts on various media in 20-, 24-, 30-, 40-, 48- or 54-inch widths (20, 24 and 30 inch on the DC5sx). Using the automatic tiling feature in the ColorControl 8 RIP software, images of unlimited size can be produced, from tiny labels to massive graphics.

Other features include an intuitive menu system and full-color touch interface; the OptiPrint media pre-cleaning system , which removes debris from the media prior to printing; and an integrated cutting head with contour cutting combined with die-cutting capabilities and advanced auto-calibration technology. Summa DC5, $19,995; DC5sx, $12,995. summausa.com
