Commack, NY—Tamron introduced the 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC (model B011) high-power zoom lens for Sony’s NEX mirrorless interchangeable-lens compact camera series. Sales in commenced December 15, 2011.

The compact, lightweight lens, weighing less than 15 ounces, is equipped with Tamron’s VC (Vibration Compensation) to enable handheld shooting from 18mm wide angle to 200mm full telephoto while combating the effects of camera shake. It’s designed to complement Sony’s NEX cameras with a metallic lens barrel exterior that is available in either black and silver.

The E-mount lens features a 62mm filter and an AF drive with a stepping motor that is optimized for the contrast-detection AF system employed by Sony mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. This also enabled improvements in AF performance when shooting video. In addition, ease of operation is enhanced with a direct manual focus (DMF) function, which allows users to make fine manual adjustments after initially focusing by AF.

Its 27-300mm equivalent focal range allows photographers to take wide-angle shots of expansive landscapes as well as telephoto images that enlarge the details of distant subjects—all with one lens. In addition, by setting the lens at the telephoto end (200mm) and moving in to the minimum focus distance of 0.5m, flower petals, jewelry and other small objects can be shot as expanded close-ups. The lens has a street price of $739. tamron-usa.com
