Las Vegas, NV—To encourage phoneographers shooting with a smartphone camera to upgrade to an entry-level interchangeable-lens camera (ILC), Canon unveiled two camera models. The EOS M50 mirrorless ILC is the first Canon M-series camera to offer 4K video recording.
In addition, the new EOS Rebel T7 is the latest addition to the popular EOS Rebel line of entry-level DSLR cameras. It features an upgraded CMOS sensor to deliver sharp, high-resolution images.
Canon EOS M50
The mirrorless EOS M50 ILC is positioned as an all-around, entry-level camera with user-friendly features. It incorporates improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology as well as a 24.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. Canon says this results in less noise and high definition in low-light situations, along with 4K video-recording capability. The camera also provides a new silent shooting mode.
“Our core goal when developing new entry-level, interchangeable-lens cameras for our consumers is to meld high-quality features and usability together. In listening to our customers, we believe we have achieved this goal with both the EOS M50 and EOS Rebel T7,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon USA, Inc. “With enhanced features for photographers of all skill levels to enjoy, both cameras demonstrate Canon’s commitment to developing and manufacturing best-in-class quality imaging solutions.”
Additional features of the EOS M50 include: a new Digic 8 image processor; HD recording at 120 frames per sec (fps) for slow-motion video; and also a built-in OLED electronic viewfinder with touch-and-drag autofocus. To complement the EVF, the camera also includes a vari-angle, touch-screen LCD. In addition, the EOS M50 integrates Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity for automatic image transfer to compatible devices while shooting.
The Canon EOS M50 will be available April 2018 for a suggested retail price of $779.99 body only. It will also be offered with the EF-M 15–45mm f/3.5–6.3 IS STM lens in both black and white versions for an SRP of $899.99. In addition, the EOS M50 will be sold in a kit with the EF-M 15–45mm f/3.5–6.3 IS STM as well as the EF-M 55–200mm f/4.5–6.3 IS STM in black only for $1,249.00.
Moreover, an EOS M50 video creator kit will be available at a price of $999.99.
Canon EOS Rebel T7
The EOS Rebel T7 DSLR features an upgraded CMOS sensor with 24.1 megapixels. It also offers easy sharing of high-resolution photos and videos on social media sites. In addition, the camera provides continuous shooting at up to 3 fps, a nine-point autofocus system and a 3-inch LCD monitor.
Additional features of the EOS Rebel T7 include: built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity; a scene intelligent auto mode that enables the camera to choose the optimum settings for a scene; and an optical viewfinder.
The EOS Rebel T7 will also ship April 2018. It will be sold as a lens-and-body kit with the EF-S 18–55 f/3.5–5.6 IS II. SRP: $549.99.
