Irvine, CA—Toshiba Digital Products, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, launched Canvio Connect, a portable external hard drive that offers high capacity storage and the ability to access and share files directly from the device.

“Toshiba’s Canvio Connect represents the next evolution in external portable hard drives,” said Maciek Brzeski, vice president, Product Marketing & Development, Branded Storage Products, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products division. “With its remote access and file-sharing capabilities, users can now share their digital content with friends, family and colleagues from anywhere at any time directly from their Canvio Connect—making it unlike any other portable hard drive on the market.”

The portable external hard drive offers up to 2TB (terabytes) of storage in a slim and compact housing that is available in several colors, including black, silver, blue, red and white. What sets the Canvio Connect apart is its ability to access and share files anytime, anywhere. For the first time ever, a product within Toshiba’s portable hard drive lineup enables users to back up photos and videos directly from smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices that are equipped with Toshiba Storage’s iOS or Android app to the external hard drive.

As long as the Canvio Connect is connected to an Internet-enabled PC that is powered on, users will have complete access to their photos, video, music and files from any device—no matter where they are. The drive also lets users share large files and folders instantly. Canvio Connect also includes 10GB of free cloud storage for storing copies of files.

In addition to its sharing and access capabilities, Canvio Connect features traditional storage and full system, file and folder backup functions that are designed to be easy to set up and use. The portable drive is preformatted NTFS for Windows PC and comes with a NTFS driver for Mac, allowing users to store and access files from their PC and Mac without reformatting.

Toshiba’s Canvio Connect external hard drive, which comes with a two-year limited warranty, will be available in May for the following SRPs: $99, 500GB; $109.99, 750GB; $129.99, 1TB; $169.99, 1.5TB; and $189.99, 2TB. toshiba.com
