Center Valley, PA—Olympus is developing the M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS Pro super-telephoto zoom lens. Compatible with the Micro Four Thirds standard, it features a 1.25x built-in teleconverter. As a result, the lens covers an equivalent focal length range of 300–1000mm.
Also in development is the MC-20 M.Zuiko Digital 2x teleconverter. The combination of both devices makes handheld super-telephoto shooting possible at a 2000mm equivalent.
M.Zuiko ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS Pro Specs
The new lens offers “exceptional optical performance in a compact, lightweight form,” Olympus announced. Moreover, it is dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof. It is also the first Olympus interchangeable lens with a built-in 1.25x teleconverter.
Furthermore, the lens provides in-lens image stabilization (IS). It supports 5-axis sync IS when working with the image stabilization of Olympus OM-D camera bodies. The compact system also delivers portability. In addition, the convenience of a built-in teleconverter makes the lens a super telephoto zoom solution for sports and bird photography. The lens will reach retail in 2020.
MC-20 2x Teleconverter
The M.Zuiko Digital 2x teleconverter doubles the focal length of the master lens while offering portability. It also features dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof (14°F) construction.
In addition to compatibility with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 150–400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS Pro lens in development, it will support the M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4.0 IS Pro and M.Zuiko Digital ED 40–150mm F2.8 Pro lenses.
Moreover, not only does the teleconverter extend the telephoto range but it also doubles the maximum shooting magnification of the master lens. This allows for super-telephoto macro shooting.
The MC-20 2x teleconverter will ship during summer 2019. Pricing for either product was not announced.
