Crystal Lake, IL—Hahnemühle announced an addition to its fine art papers. Hahnemühle Platinum Rag is an uncoated fine art paper that is designed to meet the high quality requirements for platinum printing and any other nontraditional photographic printing processes. These processes include palladium, Vandyke, cyanotype and salt prints.
The natural bright white paper has a weight of 300 gsm and is made of 100% cotton rag fibers. The paper is acid free and does not contain any alkaline buffering. Along with its optimized sizing, the paper allows for easy coating and clearing.
“Hahnemühle Platinum Rag excels with a beautiful tonal range and very deep blacks. The smooth, slightly textured surface lends the paper a pleasant feel-to-the-touch. Both sides have a very good print quality without any noticeable difference while printing both the front and the back,” the company stated in a press release.
With a smooth, subtle textured surface and a natural bright white appearance without optical brighteners, the new fine art photo 300 gsm paper comes is 25-sheet packages in the following paper sizes: 22×30 inches, SRP $199.99; 20×24 inches, $175; 11×15 inches, $75; 8×10 inches, $45. It’s also available in 8.5×11-inch sheets in 5-sheet packages.
Founded in 1584, Hahnemühle is one of the oldest German papermakers manufacturing papers for traditional and digital artists as well as industrial papers. It is unique in that the company has produced its paper at the same place for more than 430 years. The paper mill was owned by the descendants of Merten Spieß for 185 years until 1769. Then the mill was sold to the Andrae family, which owned it until 1884, when it was bought by L. Heinemann. Just two years later, the mill was sold to Carl Hahne, the company’s namesake.
