SanDisk Sues 25 Companies Over Patents

SanDisk Corp. announced Thursday that it has filed three patent infringement actions against 25 separate companies who they claim have infringed on SanDisk-owned patents in production of flash-based products. The suits were filed both with the U.S. International Trade Commission and in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin.

Among those named in both the ITC and Wisconsin suits are Imation/Memorex, LG Electronics, PNY, Silicon Motion, and Verbatim. PNY and Verbatim are also among the companies targeted in a second Wisconsin suit concerning an additional two patents.

SanDisk is seeking damages, an injunction banning further sales, and an ITC ruling banning further importation of the offending chips.

“Our goal is to resolve these matters by offering the defendants the opportunity to participate in our patent licensing program for card and system technology,” SanDisk’s chief intellectual property lawyer, E. Earle Thompson, said in a statement released by the company. “Otherwise, we will aggressively pursue these actions, seeking a prompt judicial resolution awarding damages, obtaining injunctive relief and banning importation of infringing product.”
