Mountain View, CA—Lytro, Inc., creator of the world’s first consumer light field camera, expanded its U.S. distribution, with in-store availability at 44 Best Buy stores nationwide as well as at the B&H Photo superstore in New York City.

Lytro is also now available through international retail partners in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the UK, through partnerships with Consutecc Innovative Technologies in Germany and Softline UK. This marks Lytro’s second international retail expansion, following the camera’s debut in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Canada in October 2012.

“As we continue to expand internationally, this is an opportunity to work with partners who share our vision for light field technology and support it across new markets. We look forward to seeing the kinds of living pictures our new European customers will create,” said Jason Rosenthal, CEO of Lytro.

The company also announced the Lytro Mobile app, which enables consumers to use their iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to experience and share light field pictures from their Lytro camera via the iOS devices. The free app communicates with Lytro cameras, whose wireless capabilities can be activated with a software update, letting camera owners preview and upload pictures to lytro.com from their iOS device, using either a cellular or Wi-Fi network.

Camera owners and non-camera owners alike can download the app to experience Lytro interactive living pictures on their iOS device, including refocusing pictures and experiencing perspective shift, with no special software required.

The Lytro Mobile app also allows people to: share a picture from an iPhone to Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail or SMS; view popular and recent living pictures that everyone has shared to Lytro.com; save a living picture as an animated GIF to their iOS camera roll; and access a series of learning tips. lytro.com
