Arlington, VA—The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) launched its fourth annual digital photo contest, the Best Shots competition, in partnership with Eye-Fi, maker of the world’s first wireless memory card.

“Today, we are able to interact with photos in progressively more innovative ways with so many options to share, create and manipulate images,” said Grace Ellis, CEA spokeswoman. “Eye-Fi and CEA want to see what people can do with their Best Shots.”

The grand prize winner, to be announced January 11, 2013 at the 2013 International CES in Las Vegas, will receive a Canon EOS Rebel T3i digital SLR and an Eye-Fi wireless SD memory card. All photo entries will be displayed in the LVH at the PMA@CES exhibits at the 2013 CES. A slate of expert judges will select finalists in each category, and winners will be chosen via an online vote that will run from January 8–11, 2013.

The contest categories—people, travel, pets and cell phone shot—were selected based on recent photo trends. While the explosion of digital camera options available in today’s market has increased the number of images captured, according to CEA research, family, friends, natural scenery and pets are the top subjects photographed. Additionally, as smartphone household penetration grows, consumers are using these phones more often to capture spontaneous photos. Not only are they taking more photos, but they are also e-mailing photos to others and posting to social networks once they are captured.

Submission to the Best Shots contest will be accepted until December 16, 2012. Entrants may submit one photo in each of four categories at CE.org/BestShots.

In addition to the grand prize, four top prizes (one camera winner per category) will also be awarded: a Nikon Coolpix P300; a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX150; a Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20; and a Fujifilm FinePix F770EXR. These four prizewinners will also receive an Eye-Fi Wireless SD memory card. Five honorable mention prizes of an Eye-Fi SD card will also be given out. ce.org
