Allendale, NJ—The internationally acclaimed Leica Oskar Barnack Award photographic competition announced submission dates for 2018. From March 1st through April 5th, professional photographers and up-and-coming photographers up to 25 years old may submit entries for the 38th Leica Oskar Barnack Award online. Last year’s competition attracted more than 2,700 entries from 104 countries.
The competition, which offers photographers the opportunity to have a light shine on their work, calls for the submission of a self-contained series of photographs—between 10 and 12 images. With the series, the photographer must perceive as well as document the interaction between man and the environment in a creative and groundbreaking style.
The winners in both categories of the 38th Leica Oskar Barnack Award will be flown to Germany for a formal ceremony. In Berlin, they will be presented their awards in front of hundreds of influential people in the photography community.
With prizes amounting to a total cash value of nearly $100,000, the Leica Oskar Barnack Award provides photographers significant resources to continue pursuing their passion. In addition, for younger photographers, it presents an opportunity to jump-start their professional photography careers.
The winner in the main category will be presented a cash prize of approximately $30,000. Moreover, this winner will receive Leica M-system equipment, a camera and lens, valued at an additional $12,000.
Moreover, a cash prize of approximately $12,000 will be awarded to the winner of the Newcomer Award. This winner will also receive a Leica rangefinder camera and lens. In addition to the two main categories, 10 other competition submissions will also each receive a prize of $3,000.
Moreover, the portfolios entered by all finalists will be displayed on the leica-oskar-barnack-award.com website. They will also be included in the magazine published specially for the competition.
38th Leica Oskar Barnack Submissions
A series of photographs captured in 2017/2018 is eligible for submission. Also, work from long-term projects that includes at least one photograph made in this time frame are eligible. Furthermore, the photographs do not have to be captured with a Leica camera to be considered.
