CEA Unveils Panelists, Speakers and Keynotes for CEA Innovate! Conference

Arlington, VA—The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced programming for the second annual CEA Innovate!, November 8–10, 2015 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. The two-day conference will bring together innovative minds in the industry to lead panels as well as sessions.

In conjunction with the conference, the CE Hall of Fame Dinner will also be held at Gotham Hall in New York City. The dinner, eight inductees will be recognized for their contributions to the consumer electronics industry.

Admission to the dinner on November 9 (reception, 6 p.m.; dinner, 7 p.m.) is included with full conference registration for CEA Innovate! This year’s inductees are: Bob Borchardt, George Feldstein, Noel Lee, Wilfred Schwartz, Tom Campbell, Vic Haynes, Bernie Mitchell and also Dr. Floyd Toole. From disruptors and start-ups to established brands, CEA Innovate! will connect the consumer technology industry around the theme of fostering innovation in companies of all sizes. Furthermore, the event will feature luncheon keynote addresses from Mark Randall, serial entrepreneur and chief strategist, vice president of creativity at Adobe, and David Pogue, founding editor in chief of Yahoo Tech and host of PBS’s NOVA ScienceNow.

Additionally, thought leaders from Canary, Digital Trends, CEB Iconoculture Consumer Insights, Dundee Venture Capital, Indiegogo, KeepUp, Phone2Action and TransLink Capital will also take the Innovate! stage to talk all things innovation.

8:30 a.m.: Millennials: You’re Trying Too Hard
As every brand runs after millennials, more and more are missing the mark by playing to the all-too-common stereotypes tied to this gigantic generation. Lindsey Roeschke, consumer strategist, CEB Iconoculture Consumer Insights, will put their diversity in context, uncover a few ties that bind millennials together and explore strategies for connecting with a generation that rejects every label they’ve been given.

9:30 a.m.: IoT—Today’s Reality and Tomorrow’s Applications                                                                       Brian Markwalter, senior vice president, research & standards, CEA, will lead this panel, discussing the changing nature of the Internet of Things (IoT) and also how this evolving trend is being defined.

10:45 a.m.: Five Technology Trends to Watch
Jeff Joseph, senior vice president, communications and strategic partnerships, CEA, will moderate a discussion of this year’s top trends across the five categories that are poised to impact the consumer electronics industry. Panelists include Eric Hsia, advisor and venture partner, TransLink Capital; tech journalist Andrea Smith; and also Jeremy Kaplan, editor in chief, Digital Trends.

12:15 p.m.: Annual Member Meeting and Keynote Lunch
Mark Randall will deliver the lunch keynote.

3:00 p.m.: Funding Strategies That Work
Kate Drane, hardware category lead, Indiegogo, one of the top crowdfunding platforms, will discuss how crowdfunding has continued to evolve as a form of raising capital. She will also offer tips for how best to use this tool. In addition, Drane will be joined by Adam Sager, the cofounder and CEO of Indiegogo success story Canary; Beth Engel, partner, Dundee Venture Capital; and Ximena Hartsock, president and cofounder, Phone2Action, who will discuss seed funding.

9:30 a.m.:
Looking for a Miracle on 42nd Street              Shawn DuBravac, chief economist and senior director of research, CEA, as well as Steve Koenig, senior director, industry analysis, CEA, will provide a mid-season update as the holiday season kicks off.

12:00 p.m.: Keynote Lunch and IEA Awards                   David Pogue will deliver the keynote address. The Innovation Entrepreneur Award (IEA) winners will also be announced at the lunch.
