Arlington, VA—The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), a trade association representing technology companies, and the owner of the International CES, the world’s largest technology trade show, launched a new membership category—the CEA Tech Enthusiast membership.

For the first time in its 86-year history, CEA has created a membership category exclusively for individuals who are early adopters and fervent supporters of consumer technology. Members will receive benefits such as online discounts from technology companies, beta testing opportunities and insider industry information on the latest tech trends. CEA Tech Enthusiast membership is $49 annually, with a special introductory price of $29 for the first 2,000 members. To join, visit CEAtechenthusiast.com.

In conjunction with this new membership category, CEA launched a nationwide search for the Ultimate Tech Enthusiast. The CEA Are You One of Us? contest challenges individuals to explain why they are the Ultimate Tech Enthusiast by creating a short video and uploading it to the CEA Tech Enthusiast Fan Page on Facebook. The grand prize is a VIP 2011 International CES Experience for the Ultimate Tech Enthusiast and a guest and a lifetime CEA Tech Enthusiast membership.

“Technology-focused consumers are a vital part of growing the consumer electronics industry, and we want to provide them with insider benefits to pay them back for their years of dedication to this market,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. “Our entire industry will benefit from this new offering as our Tech Enthusiasts’ expertise, thoughts and opinions will help inform everything from product offerings to public policy efforts.”

CEA Tech Enthusiast members will be able to create user profiles that link to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. They can also enhance their online experience thanks to a partnership with gdgt, the official social network of CEA Tech Enthusiast Membership.

Tech Enthusiast members will receive exclusive benefits from CEA, including: access to a members-only website; special one-time-only celebration on the final day at the 2011 International CES in Las Vegas (January 9) for the first 1,000 registered CEA TE members; free digital access to CEA publications, podcasts and original content; and the opportunity to become a CEA blogger.

Video submissions for the Are You One of Us? contest will be accepted November 9-30, 2010, and online voting will occur December 1-10. The winner will be announced December 15. Full contest details are available at CEAtechenthusiast.com/terms. For more information on the CEA TE Membership, visit ceatechenthusiast.comce.org
