Lake Success, NY—Building upon the success from last year, Canon USA has again teamed up with the Arbor Day Foundation to help preserve the nation’s forests with the continuation of the Canon Forest Program. With over 50,000 trees planted in state parks around the U.S. since the program began in 2008, the goal for 2010 is to exceed last year’s total of 30,000.

Beginning on May 1 and running through August 31, for every five Canon Generation Green products registered on the Canon USA website, Canon will plant a tree in state parks through the Arbor Day Foundation. In addition to the product registration campaign, Canon will plant one tree for every hardware item purchased from Shop Canon Direct (shop.usa.canon.com), from April 8 through May 20.

“Being a part of the solution when it comes to protecting and preserving the environment, is a major initiative for Canon,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging, Canon USA. “With our latest line of Generation Green products along with the help of our customers, we can all help to make a difference and curtail climate change.”

Canon’s Generation Green products are designed to offer paper-saving technology and energy-saving measures, as well as minimal product packaging, all helping to contribute to the overall sustainability of the environment. Select products that currently qualify under Generation Green come from the following product groups: Pixma inkjet printers, CanoScan color image scanners, LiDE color image scanners, green calculators, imagePrograf large-format printers, imageFormula document and check scanners, Color imageRunner digital imaging systems, imageRunner LBP digital imaging systems, imageRunner, imageRunner Advance digital imaging systems, imageClass multifunction printers and copiers, FaxPhone facsimile devices, and Color imageClass multifunction printers and copiers.

Consumers can check on the progress of the program by visiting usa.canon.com/green. In addition, the website features a tree counter showing where and how many trees have been planted, along with information on how best to maximize the efficiency of Canon Generation Green products.

Canon is also asking customers to assist with the collection and recycling of genuine inkjet printer cartridges in order to contribute to the goal of zero landfill waste. Once the cartridge is received by the recycling facility, Canon will assume the responsibility and cost for recycling the cartridges in an environmentally responsible manner preventing additional landfill waste.
