50% Yet to Buy a CE Product in ’09

According to Parks Associates’ Consumer Decision Process, almost 50% of broadband households did not purchase a CE product in the first half of 2009.  The survey found that fewer households overall are buying CE products than in either of the past two years. Desktops, laptops, and LCDs led the product categories for those who did buy, reaching 14-17 percent of broadband households.

The survey also measured intent for the second half of ’09, noting that it was higher than in the first half.  Netbooks in particular are expected to see a jump, with 5 percent buying in the first half, but 10 percent expected to own one by the end of the second.

Parks Associates CEO Tricia Parks asserted, "Fortunately, intentions to purchase are higher in the second half of 2009 – we’ll see a spike for several products for Christmas and the holiday season, including smartphones, earbuds, GPS devices, and digital photo frames."
