Ronkonkoma, NY—Sigma Corporation’s new wide-aperture Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art zoom lens is its latest ultrawide-angle lens to incorporate the company’s ultrahigh-precision, large-diameter molded glass aspherical lens elements.

In addition to the new Global Vision full-frame lens, Sigma also announced a front conversion service for the 14–24mm f/2.8.

Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 Art Features

Designed for 50-megapixel-plus cameras, the 14–24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art employs three FLD (fluorite equivalent) glass elements, three SLD (super-low dispersion) glass elements, and three aspherical lens elements. The construction includes an 80mm high-precision molded-glass aspherical element.

Optimizing the power distribution of the 80mm and other lens elements minimizes distortion to 1% or lower. As a result, points of light appear as points without streaking from the center of the image to the edge. Furthermore, the light volume is claimed to be abundant throughout the frame. As a result, the optical formula is said to produce near zero distortion and minimal transverse chromatic aberration, flare and ghosting.

“The new Sigma 14–24mm offers constant f/2.8 brightness throughout the zoom range and delivers optimal image quality at every focal length and shooting distance. The high-speed, high-accuracy autofocus allows photographers to capture incredible, in-the-moment images,” the company announced.

Rugged Design

In addition, the new lens features the Sigma Sports line’s level of dust- and splashproof construction. It boasts special sealing at the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring and cover connection. This allows photographers to use the lens in all types of weather conditions. Moreover, a water- and oil-repellent coating protects the front of the lens to make for easy cleaning.

The lens supports Canon, Nikon as well as Sigma mounts. It also works with Sigma’s MC-11 Sony E-mount converter. The Nikon mount features an electromagnetic diaphragm. In addition, the Canon mount is compatible with the Canon lens aberration correction function.

Pricing and availability for the Sigma 14–24mm f/2.8 Art lens will be announced at a later time.

Front Mount Conversion Service

To address the rising popularity of multi-camera productions, especially the use of ultrawide-angle lenses in shooting virtual reality (VR) content, Sigma introduced its Front Conversion Service.

The service converts the petal-type hood of the 14–24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art to a round component. The altered front structure is designed to enable the lens to be used in various multi-camera VR scenarios without the risk of interfering with other lenses in the rig or producing undesired shadows.

The availability of this fee-based service for the Sigma 14–24mm f/2.8 Art will also be announced at a later date. sigmaphoto.com
