Commack, NY—Along with the SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and SP 90mm f/2.8 Di VC USD 1:1 Macro lenses, Tamron announced the TAP-in Console. The lens accessory (model TAP-01) allows users to update firmware in selected Tamron lenses and customize various lens functions. Users need only attach the TAP-in Console and run the Tamron TAP-in Utility software on their PC or Mac.

Using the accessory and an Internet connection, customers can access a dedicated website to update firmware themselves, where previously updates could be performed only at Tamron Customer Service Centers.

In addition, selected lenses can be customized by changing various settings to match user preferences. Customizable functions include the following.

• Focus adjustment. Adjustments can be made in distance-close, intermediate and far-range regions. For zoom lenses with variable focal length ranges, adjustments can be made for eight segments, which means focus adjustment for up to 24 regions is possible.

• Focus distance limiter. For lenses with the focus limiter function, it is possible to adjust the autofocus drive range by setting the near and far limits. If the focus limiter switch on a lens has three positions, setting the middle position is possible.

• Full-time manual focus override. For lenses that have a full-time manual focus feature, users can set the mode to “on” or “off.” They can also optimize the focus ring’s sensitivity to their preference relative to its angular rotation anywhere between high and low, when setting the manual focus mode menu button to on.

• VC adjustment. For lenses with VC technology that are TAP-in Console compatible, users can choose the mode they prefer. Prioritize viewfinder image stabilization mode places priority on the stability of the viewfinder image. Standard (factory default) mode strikes a balance between the stability of the viewfinder image and vibration compensation effects. Prioritize stabilization mode ensures stable VC effects of captured images.

In addition to the SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and SP 90mm f/2.8 Di VC USD 1:1 Macro lenses, the TAP-in Console is compatible with the SP 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD and SP 35mm F/1.8 Di VC USD lenses. Both latter lenses require initial firmware update by a Tamron service facility for compatibility.

The Tamron TAP-in Console lens accessory is expected to be available in April. The price will be announced shortly. tamron-usa.com
