Cologne, Germany—At photokina 2016, Polaroid announced the global release of the Polaroid Snap Touch instant digital camera.

Instant photography has been at the heart of the Polaroid brand for nearly 80 years.  Now, with the Polaroid Snap Touch, the company is offering the traditional instant photography experience with features aimed at today’s digital user. The Snap Touch follows in the footsteps of the first-generation Polaroid Snap, but with several features to make sharing easier.

“As the original pioneers of instant photography, we at Polaroid have been dedicated to bringing products to market which fit our brand DNA of instant gratification, sharing, and fun throughout our history,” said Scott W. Hardy, president and CEO of Polaroid.

“Today, we’re focused on designing products which meet the needs of modern consumers, but still trigger the emotional response of our legacy Polaroid cameras. There’s no better example of this than the Polaroid Snap. The instant digital camera boasts a fun and exciting design that’s unlike anything else on the market, and we’re incredibly excited to debut its successor, the Polaroid Snap Touch, at photokina 2016.”

Snap, Print and Share

The Polaroid Snap Touch incorporates updated features for an enhanced instant experience. These include the addition of a 3.5-inch LCD touch screen for framing shots and navigating the camera’s menu. Also new is an improved 13 megapixel CMOS sensor for higher quality images as well as 1080p Full HD video. In addition, all images and video are now stored on a micro SD card (up to 128GB) to allow for sharing later.

Furthermore, integrated within the Polaroid Snap Touch is a printer that uses ZINK (Zero Ink Printing) technology. This gives consumers the ability to instantly print color, 2×3-inch photographs of captured images. And printing is at a lower cost than traditional instant film prints.

Additionally, the Polaroid Snap Touch is designed for today’s selfie shooters. It has a self-timer as well as a selfie mirror to ensure the user is framed perfectly in the shot. Also, the instant digital camera offers three color modes: black and white, color, and vintage sepia. Users also have the option to print with or without the iconic Polaroid classic border logo.  polaroid-snap-touch-lcd

Bluetooth Plus Polaroid Print App

Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity and integration with the Polaroid Print app, users are no longer limited to just printing photos captured by the camera itself.  Using Bluetooth and the app, they can pair the camera with other devices. These include smartphones as well as tablets, to transform the device into an instant photo printer.

The free app, available for iOS and Android, also gives users the ability to edit images saved on other mobile devices. They can apply creative filters, digital stickers, effects and controls—and then print via the Snap Touch. In addition, by exploring the Polaroid Print app, users can unlock trophies and other hidden features.

The new instant digital camera was created in partnership with the design firm Ammunition. Ammunition is the studio that was also behind the Polaroid Zip instant photo printer and Polaroid Cube and Polaroid Cube+ lifestyle action cameras.

When designing the Polaroid Snap family of instant digital cameras, Ammunition sought to create a sense of continuity between classic Polaroid cameras and current Polaroid products. Led by industrial designer Robert Brunner, Ammunition is the design studio behind Adobe, Beats by Dre, Square, Lyft as well as Williams-Sonoma.

ZINK Printing

Also debuting at photokina was the Polaroid rainbow border, 2×3-inch ZINK paper. The camera’s ZINK-enabled printer uses heat to activate and colorize cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals embedded in the paper. The result is full-color prints said to be long-lasting and smudgeproof—without using ink cartridges, ribbons or toner.

The latest version of ZINK paper includes five brightly colored borders reminiscent of the white Polaroid classic border logo. The colored border will automatically appear around the image after a photo is printed.

In addition, ZINK 2×3-inch photos print in just under a minute, so consumers can instantly share them. The paper is adhesive backed so the photos can also be used as stickers. Furthermore, the Polaroid rainbow border, premium ZINK paper is compatible with the first-generation Polaroid Snap and Polaroid Zip instant photo printer.

Offered by C+A Global, an authorized Polaroid licensee, the Polaroid Snap Touch instant digital camera is available for preorder. It has a suggested retail price of $179.99.
