Valhalla, NY—Fujifilm North America Corporation showcased a range of products at the PhotoPlus Expo. Among them were the new XF35mm f/2 R WR lens and the XF1.4x TC WR teleconverter.

Fujinon XF35mm f/2 R WR

This 53mm-equivalent prime lens joins Fujifilm’s premium X-series mirrorless system in November 2015. The lens offers a focal length with the angle of view similar to that of the human eye. It has a maximum aperture of f/2.0 to deliver sharp images with rich bokeh. It is constructed of 9 elements in 6 groups, including two aspherical elements to reduce chromatic aberration. Specs say it also has an autofocus speed of 0.08 sec.

In addition, the exterior of the lens is weather- and dust-resistant and can work in temperatures down to 14° F. Also, the lens uses eight seals on the barrel to protect it from rain, dust and splashes of water. In addition, an internal focus system combines with a stepping motor to produce quiet, accurate and fast autofocus. Other features include: Nano-GI coating to reduce ghosting and flare; a 9-blade aperture for circular bokeh; and a minimum working distance of 13 inches.

Extending the range of the Fujinon XF50–140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR lens, this teleconverter also will be added to the X series in November. The teleconverter will be compatible with select future lenses, including the Fujinon XF100–400mm lens, which is currently on the XF lens road map.

The XF1.4x TC WR is capable of multiplying the focal length of the XF50–140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR lens by 1.4x, (70–200mm equivalent). Although the aperture becomes one f-stop higher when mounted, the teleconverter features an optical design constructed of 7 elements in 3 groups to maintain the optical performance of the original lens. The teleconverter is also weather- and dust-resistant and operates at temperatures as low as 14° F.

In related news, Fujifilm released a new firmware update that is required for all Fujifilm X-series camera bodies in order to provide full compatibility with the new lens and teleconverter. fujifilmusa.com
