Our Memories Make Us Who We Are

Our memories are the stories of us. They are the bridge to our past that links us to our grandparents, parents, siblings, children, grandchildren and friends. Like treasured heirlooms, our memories teach us thaPhotoRestore-Cart the bonds of family and friendship need to be cherished above all else. Sharing those memories enriches our lives by bringing us closer to our loved ones. And there is no better way to preserve those memories than through photographs.

Memories Cannot Be Replaced, but They Can Be Revived

All those photographs lying in a shoebox are memories waiting to be revived, relived and shared. That old photo album collecting dust might have an irreplaceable picture of a young daughter playing with her dolls—or a memorable photo of college roommates the day they all moved in together. These amazing memories deserve a second chance.

1. Gather

Encourage them to gather all their photos from those boxes and photo albums. Don’t forget any photos stored digitally on old computers or laptops. Show them how to gently remove any dust or dirt from the photos with a soft cloth.

They must then consider how they want to organize their photos. They can group them by date or event, family members or vacations. There are lots of ways to organize photo collections; encourage your customers to use a system that works for them and create stacks of the photos accordingly.

If this seems overwhelming to your customers, have them check out Appo.org. At the website for the Association of Personal Photo Organizers (APPO), they can search for a professional to help them organize their entire photo collections, if this is a service you don’t offer. You may consider hiring a member of APPO, or become a member yourself to offer this service.

3. ScanPhotoRestore-Scan

Once the photo collection is organized, it’s time to digitize the photos by scanning them. If you don’t provide photo-scanning services, you can sell them a printer/scanner to do the job. Customers can scan several photos at once on a printer’s scanner. Or they can use an app such as Shoebox from Ancestry.com on a smartphone. (If they are going to use a phone to scan, remember to tell them to scan photos in a room with lots of natural light.)

Also, if you don’t offer this service, perhaps you can work out an affiliate partnership and delegate this process to a scanning service like ScanMyPhotos.com, which scans, crops, edits and archives photos.

4. RestorePhotoRestore-Last-collage

After the photos are scanned, the next step is to restore their vibrancy. With innovative photo correction software like Vivid-Pix RESTORE Picture-Fix, enhancing and refining old photos is as easy as 1, 2, 3. You can also restore color and clarity with just one click. And what’s more, RESTORE Picture-Fix also improves on the built-in enhancement software in scanners and scanning services.

If perhaps you don’t offer photo restoration services, you can offer a class using a program like RESTORE Picture-Fix and include the software in the price of the class.

  1. I completely agree – the challenge is to get customers to proactively think about their old photo collections and to get them archived to a digital format before there is any further deterioration. They can limit the cost of future photo restoration services by limiting the damage, and then they can spread the cost out over time.
