Tokyo, Japan—The full 2014 camera sales data for Japan, including the interchangeable-lens segments, were published by BCNranking. The Tokyo-based research firm delivers the selling rankings of digital consumer electronics.
Mirrorless Segment
According to BCN, Sony dethroned Olympus and is now number one in the mirrorless compact system camera market. See Figure 1. This is significant since the mirrorless category is very strong in Japan. It is virtually on par with DSLRs in terms of cameras sales.
DSLR Segment
On the other hand, in the DSLR segment, Canon continued to hold the top spot for 2014. In addition, Canon is followed closely by Nikon. Furthermore, for the second year in a row, Ricoh Imaging captured the third largest DSLR market share in Japan. bcnranking.jp/en
