Fairfield, NJ—Unique Photo, New Jersey’s largest retail camera specialty store and center for photography education, will celebrate the grand opening of its new store in Hoboken, New Jersey, on June 2, 2016. Located at 79 Hudson Street at the Hudson Crossroads, across from the Hoboken PATH Station, the new store is steps away from Unique Photo’s original camera store, which opened on the same day in 1954.

The store is currently open and offering soft opening services such as rentals, trade-ins and personal one-on-one training sessions. Hoboken store hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

be opening our new satellite store in the same place where my grandparents opened their first retail location in 1954,” said Alexander Sweetwood, president of Unique Photo and the third generation of the Sweetwood family to head the Fairfield, New Jersey-based camera store. “Now our customers will have even more convenience and accessibility to the latest camera technology, education and services that have made our store the ultimate destination for amateur and professional photographers alike.”

The 1,200-square-foot Hoboken store will feature the same photography services and educational programs that have made Unique Photo one of the leading photographic retailers and distributors in the United States. In addition to a full catalog of rental equipment, it will offer group educational classes and workshops, one-on-one training, printing and photo restoration services, equipment buyback programs and repair services.

Situated near the PATH train station and the Hudson River waterfront, the Hoboken store will also offer customers the opportunity to take special off-site photo excursions. These will include walking photo tours of historic Hoboken, the Statue of Liberty and New York City skyscapes.

“Returning to Hoboken and our roots really proves that ‘you can go home again,’ and it’s a symbol of success,” added Sweetwood.

Unique Photo began when Bernard and Harriet Sweetwood opened a small photographic supply outlet in Brooklyn, New York, in 1947. They expanded by opening more than 20 retail outlets within department stores across New Jersey. Their first independent retail location, Hoboken Camera Center, was opened in 1954.

Unique Photo is also home to the Unique Photo Expo, a photography public trade show. It will be held June 24–26, 2016 at the Unique Photo Superstore in Fairfield. Consumers can demo and purchase the latest products from leading manufacturers and take advantage of sales and more than 40 free photography workshops.

Digital Imaging Reporter’s 2013 Dealer of the Year, Unique Photo’s Fairfield location is a 50,000-square-foot facility that features a spacious retail area, a multimedia learning center, a professional photo lab, meeting spaces, a gourmet coffee bar and a Wi-Fi lounge.
