Gavagan supersedes Steven Schwartz, who is completing three years’ service as chair. Schwartz will remain a board member and supporter of the George Eastman Museum.

“I consider it a privilege to serve the George Eastman Museum,” Gavagan said. “Its extraordinary collections are unparalleled, and it is an institution unlike any other in the world. I look forward to working closely with the museum’s director, Bruce Barnes, and my board colleagues to advance the museum’s missions of preservation, leadership in the fields of cinema and photography, education, and service to its communities.”

Gavagan began his tenure with the museum through his interest in cinema and served as the chair of its Moving Image Collection Committee. His contributions have extended to all aspects of the museum. He has chaired its Finance Committee and Committee on Trustees as well as served as a member of the Executive and Development Committees.

“The Eastman Museum has greatly benefited from Kevin and his wife Nancy’s steadfast dedication and generous philanthropy,” said Bruce Barnes, Ron and Donna Fielding Director, George Eastman Museum.

“Kevin has brought insight, sound judgment and also tireless efforts to our board of trustees. He has made important contributions to moving the museum forward. We are thrilled to have him as our new board leader. Since 2003, Nancy also has been one of the museum’s most dedicated docents.”
