Mirrorless Compact System Camera Sales Picking Up Steam

The 2014 holiday period was successful for the mirrorless compact system camera market. Improving upon positive sales growth throughout most of 2014, mirrorless CSC unit sales grew 33% while revenues improved by 19%. Sony continues to lead in the CSC category, accounting for three-quarters of revenues and growing 86% compared to last year.
The DSLR segment declined more sharply, falling by 10% and 14% in units and revenues, respectively, compared to holiday 2013. During holiday 2014, mirrorless CSCs accounted for 15% of detachable-lens camera units, up from 11% in 2013.—Ben Arnold, Executive Director, The NPD Group
