San Diego, CA—Built to deliver high-resolution images while under the waves or in the mountains, day or night, Sony’s slim new Cyber-shots—the DSC-WX150, DSC-W690, DSC-TX66 and DSC-TX20—are being touted as “the world’s thinnest 10x optical zoom cameras.”

Their thin design is largely attributed to the new “advanced aspherical” lens element, which allows the lens unit to be drastically smaller than those in previous 10x zoom Cyber-shots while still producing highly detailed images.

The TX66 features a front-sliding design and measures about 12.2mm (excluding lens cover), which is about the thickness of a standard AA size battery. The similarly thin TX20 is Sony’s most rugged compact camera, offering waterproof (to 16 feet), dustproof, shockproof (to 5 feet) and freezeproof (to 14o F) construction.

The WX150, TX66 and TX20 employ high-resolution Exmor R CMOS sensors and advanced Bionz image processors to enhance low-light performance, autofocus speeds, image stabilization and various multi-shot capabilities, including 10-fps bursts, a background defocus mode and 3D still image capture. They also have “dual record” functionality for capturing high-res photos while shooting video and Clear Image Zoom digital zoom technology, which boosts optical zoom to 2x virtual capability (i.e. 5x optical zoom to 10x virtual zoom) at full resolution. Each of these models can shoot Full HD video (at various resolutions) and provide picture effect options for creative photography.

DSC-WX150. Available in silver, black, red and blue this May for $250, the WX150 offers: 18.2 megapixel resolution; an AF speed of 0.13 sec in daylight, 0.20 sec in low light; a 3.0-inch 460k-dot LCD; a 10x wide-angle optical zoom lens (25-250mm equivalent) with 20x digital “clear image zoom” at full res; Extra High Sensitivity technology to enhance low-light shooting capabilities; dual record for capturing 13MP still images while shooting video; Full HD movie recording (1,920x1,080/60i); enhanced Optical SteadyShot stabilization to reduce blur from hand-shake during still and video shooting; and nine picture effect options.

DSC-W690. Offered in silver, black, red and blue this May for $180, the W690 features: a 16.1MP CCD sensor; a 3.0-inch touch-screen LCD; 10x wide-angle optical zoom lens (25-250mm equivalent); 720p HD movie shooting; enhanced Optical SteadyShot; and four picture effects.

DSC-TX66. Now available in silver, gold, red, white, purple and pink for $350, the 18.2MP TX66 features: AF speeds of 0.13 sec in daylight, 0.25 sec in low light; a 5x wide-angle optical zoom lens (26-130mm equivalent) with 10x digital “clear image zoom” at full resolution; Extra High Sensitivity technology; a 3.3-inch touch-screen OLED; dual record to capture 13MP photos while shooting video; Full HD movie capability; enhanced Optical SteadyShot; a photo creativity interface plus nine picture effects.
