Despite global supply issues over the past year, interchangeable-lens cameras continue to thrive. According to NPD’s Retail Tracking Service, interchangeable-lens cameras accounted for 17% of all digital cameras sold in the first quarter of 2012 in the U.S. market.

Mirrorless hybrid cameras, which represented 2% of all digital cameras in the first quarter of 2012, have kept overall interchangeable-lens camera unit and dollar growth positive.

Sales (units) of interchangeable-lens cameras have climbed 41% since Q1 2009, at a time when compact cameras have declined nearly 40%.–Liz Cutting, Executive Director, Senior Imaging Analyst, The NPD Group, Inc.
