Saitama, Japan—Tamron Co., Ltd., revealed the development of the SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD (model A007), a full-size high-speed standard zoom lens equipped with VC (vibration compensation) image stabilization and USD (ultrasonic silent drive).

The new lens, whose price and availability will be announced at a later date, is engineered to render sharpness, so that when even shooting in low-light conditions with a slow shutter speed, Tamron’s VC will allow for stable handheld camera work. Featured are special high-grade glass in the three LD elements, three glass-molded aspherical lenses, one hybrid aspherical lens and two XR (extra refractive index) glasses, as well as a rounded diaphragm to help achieve creative blur effects. This rounded diaphragm retains a nearly circular shape even when taken two stops down from its fully open state.

Also notable is Tamron’s proprietary USD (ultrasonic silent drive), which is designed to power a speedy AF drive together with a continuous manual mechanism. The new high-speed standard zoom lens has a wide-end focal length of 24mm, and it adopts Tamron’s latest optical design, VC and USD, in a lighter and more compact package. With a minimum focus distance of 15 inches and moisture-resistant construction to help prevent water from penetrating the lens, Tamron’s model A007 includes a flower-shaped lens hood and is available in Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts. tamron.com
