Commack, NY—Morio Ono, the president and CEO of Tamron Co., Ltd., announced the development of an ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a focal length range of 150mm to 600mm for full-frame and APS-C-format DSLRs. The new SP 150–600mm f/5–6.3 Di VC USD lens (model A011) was on display at the Tamron booth at the Salon de la Photo 2013, held November 7–11 in Paris, France.

Mounted on an APS-C DSLR, the lens has an equivalent focal length range of 233–930mm. The new 4x zoom lens features eBand coating to reduce unwanted light reflections that cause flare and ghosting, three LD (low dispersion) glass elements to deliver superior imaging performance, and conventional BBAR (broad-band antireflection) coating to suppress ghosting and flare, even when shooting under adverse lighting conditions.

It also uses Tamron’s latest built-in VC (vibration compensation) system to help broaden users’ horizons in achieving sharper handheld photographs and a USD (ultrasonic silent drive) motor for a fast, accurate AF response. Its full-time manual focus mechanism allows users to make fine manual focus adjustments at any time even when AF is engaged. In addition, it sports a stylish new external finish, and its nine-blade circular diaphragm enables users to create artistic background blur effects. Price TBA. tamron.com
