San Diego, CA—Photography software developer Nik Software has exceeded the 9 million user mark for its Snapseed photo-editing and sharing app for iPad/iPhone that was released in June 2011.

Within six months of its release, Snapseed was named iPad App of the Year in the iTunes Rewind 2011, and in 2012 it received the TIPA award for Best Mobile Photo App from the Technical Imaging Press Association. With the growth and popularity of mobile photography, Nik expects to double its customer base in the coming year.

Snapseed is available for all iOS devices and will ship for Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming months. The company’s Snapseed product line was recently expanded to include compatibility with Mac OS and Windows computers.

“Everyone now wants a photography experience that is not limited by their device and expects the same level of quality from mobile photography that they have with their cameras and computers,” said Michael J. Slater, president and CEO of Nik Software. “We have developed top photography software and technologies for well over a decade, and we will continue to leverage this as we grow the Snapseed experience.”

Snapseed includes many of the Nik Software patented technologies found in the company’s professional product line, including U Point technology, which enables precise, selective enhancements to be made to any area of a photo. The app also enables one-click adjustments in Snapseed to improve and stylize photos and enable users to edit and filter photos on the go and share them via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and e-mail. niksoftware.com
