Redwood City, CA—Shutterfly, an Internet-based social expression and personal publishing service, launched its Treat Birthday Card app for iPhone—a major addition to Shutterfly’s new greeting card brand, Treat, which is an online destination dedicated to easily personalizing and sending greeting cards.

The new Treat Birthday Card app is designed to allow users to thoughtfully connect with family and friends by creating personalized birthday cards directly from their iPhone in only a few minutes. After a user finishes the customization process, the cards are printed, inserted into pre-addressed envelopes with real stamps, and mailed. They usually arrive within three days to any U.S. recipient. The cards cost as low as $1.99 each with a Treat Club Card membership. Users can also include gift cards from popular retailers, including: Amazon, Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Target, Fandango, SpaFinder and Groupon.

“Relationships aren’t cookie cutter, so cards shouldn’t be either,” said Jeff Housenbold, president and chief executive officer of Shutterfly. “At Shutterfly, we are always looking for new and convenient ways to help people connect and deepen their relationships with each other. The Treat Birthday Card app for iPhone is an amazing app that lets people create personalized birthday cards right on their iPhone, celebrating friends and family whenever and wherever they are. We’re looking forward to creating even more ideas that help people connect in personal, thoughtful and convenient ways.”

The new iPhone app also provides a scheduling and reminder service. Users can create and schedule delivery of birthday cards up to a year in advance, which is ideal for those who like to plan ahead. Treat also reminds users when a friend’s birthday is coming up, so they can create and send the perfect birthday card in time. Users can import birthdays directly from their Facebook account, or they can add them manually in order to receive the birthday reminders.

The app includes a personalized search feature—the “card finder wheel”—that filters cards by recipient and tone. Users spin the wheel to find the perfect card with a few swipes. Many cards also include the option to add photos from their Treat, Facebook, iPhone and Shutterfly photo albums. Treat can even help users find the right words from a message library of pre-written, customizable messages.

The Treat Birthday Card app is free from the iTunes App Store; users can locate the app by searching “Treat Cards.” Those looking to send cards for other events, like holidays, thank you and thinking of you cards, can go to treat.com and create personalized cards for all occasions, including fully customizable designs from Hallmark. treat.com
