Ridgefield Park, NJ—Samsung Electronics America expanded its lineup of SD and microSD memory cards with the new Pro series, which features cards with capacities up to 64GB and transfer speeds up to 80MB/sec. The higher performance cards were added for photographers looking to capture high-quality images and mobile users who want to expand the storage capacity of their smartphones or tablets.

The Pro series joins the new High Speed series and Plus Extreme Speed series memory cards. Available in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities, the High Speed and Plus Extreme Speed series have transfer speeds to 24MB/sec and 48MB/sec, respectively.

“Samsung’s memory cards offer reliability for the content that matters most to you—whether it’s keeping stunning images and video shot with a digital camera or camcorder, or saving movies and music to a smartphone or tablet device,” said Reid Sullivan, senior vice president, Mobile Entertainment, Samsung Electronics America. “With the introduction of even larger capacities and faster speeds, Samsung is delivering high-quality products that complement the mobile and entertainment-rich lifestyles of our customers.”

Like the High Speed and Plus Extreme Speed cards, Samsung’s Pro series SD and microSD cards are built for durability and performance: they are water resistant (up to 24 hours), shockproof (to 3,200 lbs.) and magnet proof (to 10,000 gauss). Samsung wanted to ensure users that they can carry these memory cards in a variety of grueling weather conditions, allowing them to tackle picture taking in the world’s most difficult situations. The Pro cards also sport a unique design created to give them a premium look.

With transfer speeds said to be three times faster than standard memory cards, the Pro series SD and microSD cards are geared for writing/storing video from 3D and HD camcorders or enthusiast-level interchangeable-lens cameras. Read speeds go up to 80MB/sec and write speeds top out at 40MB/sec, so images and video can be captured in quick succession.

Samsung’s Pro series memory cards come in the following capacities and MSRPs. SD: 16GB, $69.99; 32GB, $119.99; and 64GB, $239.99. microSD (70MB/sec read, 20MB/sec write): 8GB, $39.99; 16GB, $69.99; 32GB, $119.99; and 64GB, $239.99. samsung.com
