Ridgefield Park, NJ—Samsung Electronics introduced two new lenses for its NX system of compact system cameras at PDN PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo in New York City: the 12–24mm f/4–5.6 ED ultra-wide zoom lens and the 45mm f/1.8 mid-telephoto prime lens.

The lightweight NX lenses are designed to offer a balance of portability and ease of use, to give photographers a simplified way to explore their photographic creativity.

“Earlier this year, Samsung introduced the world’s first compact system cameras with built-in Wi-Fi, and with the addition of the lightweight ultra-wide zoom lens and mid-telephoto prime lens, Samsung continues its leadership in imaging innovation,” said Reid Sullivan, senior vice president of Mobile Entertainment. “With a diverse portfolio of 11 lenses, the Samsung NX system offers a solution for virtually any photographer from beginner to the most seasoned professional.”

Thanks to its ultra-wide angle, this lens is engineered to capture sweeping landscapes yet also take shots in confined interior spaces. At 7.3 ounces, it remains compact. One extra-low dispersion glass lens and two aspherical glass lenses are employed to heighten image quality and produce sharpness as well as low chromatic aberration. $599.99.

NX 45mm f/1.8 Lens. This 4-ounce mid-telephoto prime lens is built to deliver dramatic depth of field with background blur, for portrait images with artistic bokeh. The bright f/1.8 aperture allows for fast shooting and is said to perform equally well in bright and low-light environments. With fast, quiet autofocus and a solid metal body and metal mount, the lightweight lens is designed to offer professional performance. $299.99.

Both lenses include Samsung’s i-Function, an intuitive control system that enables users to adjust shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings from the lens. The lenses are also compatible with Samsung’s complete lineup of NX-series cameras, including the 2012 line of NX Smart cameras: the NX1000, NX210 and NX20. samsung.com
