The organizers of photokina 2010 recently announced that, “All the leading names of the international photography and imaging sector will be represented at the 31st photokina – from A to Z, from Adobe to Zeiss.” The event is scheduled to take place from September 21-26, 2010 in Cologne, Germany.

“After talking to all market leaders of the imaging sector, we are happy to report that all companies have confirmed that all top players will be coming to Cologne this year“, said Oliver Kuhrt, Executive Vice President of Koelnmesse GmbH. The organizers of photokina 2010 – Koelnmesse and the German Photographic Industry Association – project that over 1,300 exhibitors from around 50 countries and 160,000 visitors will make the trip to Cologne. Close to 100 North American companies will take exhibit space, many of them in the North American Pavilion organized by Koelnmesse Inc., the Chicago- based subsidiary of the show organizer.

photokina is unique because of its comprehensive approach: It addresses the imaging media, imaging technologies, and imaging markets in all their variety – for professionals and consumers alike. The event offers photography products and services to the trade, to imaging professionals as well as consumers. The 2010 edition of photokina will have a strong focus on professional trade visitors.

“Meet the Professionals“ in Hall 4.1 will showcase “Computer-Generated Imaging“ (CGI) solutions as well as the latest trends in “Large-format Printing“ and “Fine Art Printing“. The program will include numerous workshops, seminars and presentations related to the creative process of the imaging workflow, from image capture to printing followed by a Q&A session.

“Meet the Communities at photokina” is the name of a second special exhibit addressing the photo enthusiast. Here organizers of photography festivals, publications, Blogs and industry associations will exchange ideas and receive feedback from amateur photographers using their platforms.

An Online Photo Competition called “World of Imaging“ is currently being planned for all Photo Enthusiasts and participation rules will be posted at the photokina website at the end of January 2010. Onsite the “Visual Gallery“ will again be the artistic highlight of photokina providing a roof for 10 Photo Exhibitions featuring international, award-winning and up-and-coming young professional photographers. The work shown will include winners of the Sony World Photography Awards, works of the BFF photographer

Thomas Herbrich as well as works by the fashion designer Corinna Gertz.
A student competition called “Academy meets photokina” will award the three best entries with awards totaling EURO 15,000. The competition is titled “Unlimited – Exploring, Experiencing and Exceeding Limits.”
