Elizabeth, NJ—ODM engineers have installed two Vortex Thread Guard needle coolers to enhance the performance of the company’s Super Sewer XXL, an automatic in-line sewing machine designed for on-demand photo books up to 18×18 inches and an inch thick.

The Super Sewer XXL features the same Back Tack technology used by the Super Sewer, which means it does a reverse lock-stitch on the head and foot of the book block to ensure a strong side sew that won’t come apart. The machine predrills holes prior to thread stitching to allow the book block thickness up to one inch. A new air cylinder provides additional operator safety. Both the Super Sewer and XXL models sew up to 600 books per hour and a touch-screen LCD color control panel facilitates easy operation.

In order to keep book production performance levels at a profitable rate, ODM added two Vortec Thread Guard needle coolers: one is installed in the Super Sewer XXL’s high-speed drill station; the other is used for thread sewing to maximize performance in producing one-inch sewn book blocks.

The Super Sewer XXL can produce book sizes from wallet (4×4 inches) to tabloid (18×18) at an inch thick. odmachinery.com
