Melville, NY—Nikon’s 24.2 megapixel D3200 is a step-up digital SLR equipped with an instructive guide mode as well as higher end performance features like Full HD (1080p) video capture with full-time autofocus and 4-frames-per-second continuous shooting.
The camera’s compact, lightweight body makes it easy to take along anywhere, and the D3200 is engineered to capture quality images in challenging lighting conditions and fast-paced action. Users can also take advantage of the optional WU-1a wireless mobile adapter that connects to the camera to wirelessly send images to mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, preview an image before shooting and control the camera remotely from 49 feet.

The D3200’s 24.2MP DX-format CMOS sensor works with Nikon’s Expeed 3 image-processing engine to help create “clear, lifelike images and video with vivid colors, smooth tonal gradations and low noise.” For low-light shooting, it offers a native ISO range of 100-6400 that can be expanded to ISO 12,800. Additionally, Nikon’s scene recognition system complements the camera’s 3D color matrix metering II to recognize color and brightness for “balanced exposures, accurate AF, faithful white balance and beautiful flash photos.”
The guide mode, accessible through the mode dial on top of the camera body, walks beginning DSLR users through setup, shooting, viewing and deleting images. It also guides users through the best video settings to create home movies in cinematic 24 for 30 fps. For those with more advanced skills, it provides assist images that serve as visual references to inspire users and illustrate a desired result, while guiding them through the techniques. The D3200 also includes six scene modes that can set via the mode dial (portrait, landscape, child, sports, close-up, night portrait), and the camera will automatically adjust settings for optimal results in various conditions.
A dedicated video record button and easy access to the live view switch helps users capture video clips before the moment is gone. Videos can be viewed on the D3200’s 3.0-inch, 921,000-dot LCD screen and shared online or on an HDTV via HDMI output. And, the camera implements full-time AF during video recording. To boost the production value of any home video, it offers manual or automatic exposure control and a stereo microphone input to attach an optional external mic, such as the compact ME-1 stereo microphone. Furthermore, the D3200 features the ability to create a shallow depth of field, low-light video recording and Nikkor lens versatility.
Other features include: an 11-point AF system and compatibility with Nikon’s DX-format lenses and over 50 FX-format lenses as well as Nikon’s Speedlight system.
The optional WU-1a wireless mobile adapter for the D3200, which allows users to share photos taken on the D3200 to an Android-based smartphone or tablet, will retail for $59.95. Both the adapter and the free app for Android smartphones (2.3 series) and tablets (3.x series) are expected for release in May. An app for the iPhone and iPad is expected in fall 2012.
