Melville, NY—Nikon introduced three Coolpix digital cameras with high-power zoom lenses—the Coolpix P520 with a 42x zoom lens, the ultra-slim Coolpix S9500 with a 22x zoom (both with Wi-Fi capabilities), and the L820 with a 30x zoom. In addition, the company debuted the waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof AW110; the family-fun Coolpix S31; and the budget-friendly Coolpix S5200 and L28. All will be available in February.
In order to give consumers a more effective way to understand the benefits of each Coolpix camera and help users determine the best camera to fit their lifestyle, Nikon has now segmented the Coolpix series into five categories: Advanced Performance; Fun & Innovative; Ultra-Slim Zoom; Comfort Long Zoom; and Budget Friendly.

Coolpix P520. To capture photos up close or at a distance, the P520 boasts a 42x optical zoom-Nikkor glass lens with an equivalent zoom range from a wide 24mm to an impressive 1000mm. Lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) combines with the new active mode assist to help capture blur-free images and video. With full manual controls, the P520 also offers an 18.1 megapixel backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor and high ISO sensitivity for enhanced low-light performance.
Other P520 features include: a 3.2-inch vari-angle LCD monitor; Full HD (1080p) video recording with stereo sound via a dedicated button; built-in GPS capabilities that let well photographers log their journeys with an easy-to-use display; and the ability to share images and videos instantly utilizing the optional WU-1a wireless mobile adapter and downloadable Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app, to transfer images and videos to compatible smart devices and tablet. The Coolpix P520 retails for an SRP of $449.95 in a choice of black, red and gray.
Coolpix L820. Designed for the family memory keeper, the Coolpix L820 provides a versatile 30x optical zoom, a 16MP CMOS sensor and VR technology to help keep shots steady. Its super-wide-angle lens covers from 22.5mm to super-telephoto 675mm. Also featured are: a 3.0-inch monitor; an ergonomic design; the convenience of AA batteries; a dedicated video button; easy auto mode; and Nikon’s smart portrait system, which enables users to enhance photos with options like red-eye fix and face-priority AF, as well as special effects that include glamour retouch, filter effects and skin softening. This Coolpix will come in black or red. $279.95.
Coolpix S9500. This pocketsize model sports a 22x Nikkor optical zoom lens (25–550mm), an 18.1MP BSI image sensor and VR technology. It too records Full HD videos and features a bright 3.0-inch OLED monitor as well as shooting effects, built-in GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity to use with the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app. In black, silver or red, the S9500 will have an SRP of $349.95.
Coolpix AW110. A 16MP point-and-shoot camera for the outdoor enthusiast, the AW110 is waterproof to 59 feet, shockproof to withstand a 6.7-foot fall and freezeproof to 14° F. GPS technology is also enabled, allowing shooters to track their adventures down to the exact longitude and latitude where an image or video is captured. Other features include: built-in Wi-Fi connectivity to transfer data to compatible smart devices for upload to social networking services via the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app; the ability to wireless control the camera through a smartphone or tablet; a Nikkor 5x optical zoom lens with lens-shift VR; Full HD (1080p) movie recording with stereo sound; a 3.0-inch OLED display; and intelligent shooting modes, including easy auto and smart portrait, with special effects that can be applied to photos and video. Coolpix S31. The 10.1MP camera is designed to enable every family member, young and old, to capture photos with ease. Housed in a compact, durable body that is waterproof (16.5 feet), shockproof (3.6 feet) and dustproof, its automatic technologies take the worry out of photography regardless of the setting. It also features: HD video recording using its a 3x optical zoom (29–87mm equivalent) Nikkor lens and a dedicated record button; a 2.7-inch LCD; an intuitive graphic user interface (GUI) for simple navigation; playback options that include in-camera slideshows and photo albums; and image editing and playback filter effects. Coolpix S5200. Employing a 16.MP BSI CMOS sensor and a wide-angle 6x (26–156mm) optical zoom-Nikkor glass lens, the slim S5200 includes built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, simple editing and shooting features like best smile selector (a tool that automatically helps select the shot that best compliments the subject), an upgraded version of glamour retouch that lets users brighten faces, quick effects and target finding AF—all accessible using the camera’s 3.0-inch TFT LCD. It will be offered in plum, red, blue and black. $179.95.
Coolpix L28. The high-res 20.1 megapixel Coolpix L28 features easy-to-use shooting functions and streamlined operation. It’s equipped with a 5x optical zoom (26–130mm), easy auto mode, HD video capture at the touch of a button and smart portrait mode, which has six functions, including face-priority AF, skin softening, smile timer, blink proof and in-camera red-eye fix.
