Melville, NY—Nikon added two FX-format lenses to its Nikkor lineup, which debuted at PhotoPlus Expo 2016. An evolution of one of Nikon’s most versatile pro zoom lenses, the newly redesigned AF-S Nikkor 70–200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR has an updated optical formula optimized for high-speed shooting.
In addition, Nikon introduced its widest perspective control lens to date; the PC Nikkor 19mm f/4E ED tilt-shift lens is engineered to help photographers control perspective when capturing architecture, interiors, fine art, product photography and landscapes.

AF-S Nikkor 70–200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR
This updated, fast telephoto zoom has a wide f/2.8 constant aperture for capturing sports, weddings and portraits. Its next-generation build helps ensure high image quality, speed and low-light performance, while offering balance.
The new 70–200mm is said to provide up to four stops of vibration reduction (VR) image stabilization. This improvement from its predecessor aids in eliminating blur from camera shake, even when shooting handheld or in challenging light. During burst shooting, the lens takes advantage of an electromagnetic diaphragm for consistent autoexposure control. Additionally, its silent wave motor (SWM) is engineered for fast, quiet AF operation with manual focus override. It also has assignable function buttons on the lens barrel for customization of focus options.
The lens’s new optical formula consists of six ED (extra-low dispersion) elements, one fluorite element, a high-refractive element and Nano Crystal Coat to help make for a lighter lens. The combination also aids in reducing chromatic aberration, distortion, ghosting and flare. The magnesium alloy lens barrel features weather sealing that is dust and splash resistant. Additionally, fluorine coating on the front and rear glass facilitates easy cleaning. The lens will be available in November for a suggested retail price of $2,799.95.
PC Nikkor 19mm f/4E ED
The latest perspective control lens (designated PC) in the Nikkor lens line is the PC Nikkor 19mm f/4E ED. The tilt-shift lens is designed to help photographers master perspective as well as depth of field. For photographers who want to capture optically challenging subjects like cityscapes and architecture, interiors or unique landscapes, this lens offers 97° coverage. That makes it the widest focal length of any Nikkor PC lens.
Photographers can tilt the lens to sharpen focus throughout a scene or create a miniature effect. They can also shift to adjust perspective in-camera, create panoramas or eliminate converging lines. A first for a Nikkor PC lens, the direction of tilt operation can be made parallel or perpendicular to shift. This enables users to control perspective, focus and depth of field without having to lock and unlock to make adjustments.
With a superwide 19mm focal length, the lens provides a perspective that’s ideal for shooting horizontal or vertical panoramas, or even filmmaking. Furthermore, this latest FX-format Nikkor was crafted with three ED and two aspherical elements to help combat distortion and glare, as well as eliminate chromatic aberration and coma—even at the widest aperture settings.
The lens also features core Nikkor technologies such as Nano Crystal Coat to alleviate ghosting and flare, an electromagnetic diaphragm for fast autoexposure control, as well as a fluorine coat that helps resist dirt, water spots and smudges.
