San Diego, CA—Memjet, developer of Waterfall printheads capable of printing 14 A1 pages a minute at 1,600 dpi, announced two new partnerships.

The company will develop a wide-format printer featuring Memjet components for Japan-based Fuji Xerox Co. Under this partnership, Fuji Xerox is integrating Memjet technology into a roll-fed 42-inch wide-format solution targeted initially at technical and production graphics applications, with a formal product launch in Asia Pacific.

Memjet will also develop a high-speed, wide-format color printer through a joint venture with Canon’s subsidiary Océ. This initiative, Project Velocity, will deliver technology that can print up to 500 A0 color prints per hour—around 15 times faster than conventional inkjet systems—at 1,600×800 dpi.

The touch-screen controlled system will be fitted with six addressable media rolls, with the ability to switch between rolls and widths up to 1,200m output capacity. The Velocity concept made its debut at the Canon Europe Drupa stand.

“The Océ partnership is significant, underscoring the performance that Memjet technology and components deliver,” said Len Lauer, Memjet president and chief executive. “Océ’s wide-format experience, excellent product development, sales and marketing expertise, and worldwide brand and distribution make them the ideal partner for Memjet in the wide-format segment.” Océ will reveal pricing and availability information in the second half of 2012

The unnamed Fuji Xerox machine featured the same print width as the Océ device and could be seen churning out graphics on a range of coated and uncoated media at 150mm/sec. A sample booklet revealed that Fuji Xerox has been using the device to print on backlit film, polyester, canvas, mesh and lightstop, in similar stock weights to the Océ machine.

Memjet’s wide-format inkjet printing system employs Waterfall Printhead technology, said to deliver more than 3 billion drops of ink per second. It high print speeds, performance and affordability for short-run and variable data color printing to a variety of markets and applications. memjet.com
